“Too Western lifestyle”
The militia behind the attack controls territory in parts of Somalia but has been pushed back from the capital in recent years. In Mogadishu, however, it repeatedly attacks government buildings, hotels and restaurants where it sees the lifestyle as too Western.
Attack on the beach
The United Nations recently issued safety warnings to UN personnel, requiring workers to avoid public gathering places and government buildings.
As reported, just two weeks ago, Al-Shabaab fighters attacked a hotel on Lido Beach in Mogadishu, shooting people as they walked, killing more than 30 people.
