What was supposed to be a relaxed barbecue in the Mühlviertel ended up in the hospital for six people. On Friday evening, a violent explosion occurred at the group’s campfire, seriously injuring two people. The exact cause is now being determined by an expert.
A warm midsummer evening, a campfire in the shadow of the Brandegg ruin near Schönau im Mühlkreis, grilled food – what sounds like an evening straight out of a picture book suddenly took a dramatic turn on Friday evening for six people when a sudden explosion occurred at the campfire!
Without any warning
Without warning, a loud bang shattered the still summer night, sending food, pieces of stone and surrounding material flying. All six people sitting around the fire were injured, two seriously. The seriously injured were taken to Linz UKH, two slightly injured to Medcampus Drei and two others to Freistadt Hospital.
Four rescues, one emergency doctor
A 30-year-old from Linz, a 31-year-old from Enns, a 34-year-old from Au, a 48-year-old and a 53-year-old from St. Pölten and a 50-year-old from Wartberg ob der Aist were treated by four rescue teams and an emergency doctor and divided between the three hospitals.
