Three soldiers from the UN peacekeeping force UNIFIL were slightly injured in an explosion in southern Lebanon. They were said to be on patrol near the Israeli border on Sunday. Her vehicle was clearly marked.
The explosion was probably caused by an airstrike near Yarine. Lebanon’s state news agency had earlier reported that “hostile Israeli warplanes” had attacked the village of Dhayra, about a kilometer away.
“All soldiers from the patrol returned safely to their base. We are investigating the incident,” UNIFIL said. Since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, there have been repeated attacks on each other by the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia and the Israeli army. At least 582 people have been killed in Lebanon since then – most of them fighters, but also at least 128 civilians. According to the army, 22 Israeli forces and 26 civilians were killed.
At least 19 dead in Gaza Strip
Meanwhile, at least 19 people have been killed in Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, including a mother and her six children, according to the Hamas health authority. The army said it had destroyed rocket launchers and killed 20 Palestinian fighters.
In total, some 40,000 people have died since the war began on October 7. The Hamas terrorist attack on southern Israel killed 1,200 people and abducted another 250 in the Gaza Strip. Of those, 41 have already been declared dead, while the others are also presumed dead.
