The pilot’s life is in danger: he crashed into rocky terrain during a flight from the Emberger Alm.
From the starting point on the Emberger Alm (1,720 meters above sea level) in Berg im Drautal, a 56-year-old German took off with his paraglider for a recreational flight down into the valley to Greifenburg around lunchtime on Tuesday.
According to witness statements, his paraglider suddenly collapsed around 3:15 p.m.
The pilot was unable to deploy the rescue parachute and fell from a height of approximately 60 metres into rocky terrain without braking.
After first aid was provided by the emergency physician of the rescue helicopter team C 7, the pilot was flown to Lienz Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
There was minor damage to the aircraft. The Greifenburg rescue service, the emergency medical helicopter, the mountain rescue service Oberes Drautal with seven men and a patrol of the Greifenburg police were in action.
