It was thanks to the courageous intervention of the drivers of a special transport and their support vehicles that no serious accident occurred on the Innkreis motorway (Upper Austria) on Thursday around 22:00. Together they stopped a seriously drunk – almost two in a thousand – wrong-way driver.
On the Innkreis motorway (A8) near St. Marienkirchen near Schärding, the wrong-way driver drove towards Sattledt at around 22:13. A witness told the police by telephone that the driver had already been stopped by a special transporter and the support vehicles shortly before the rest area on the St. Marienkirchen motorway near Schärding.
Car was stopped
When the highway police arrived, the car was in the left lane and looking in the opposite direction. The driver, a 69-year-old from Eggerding, was given an alcohol test on the spot. Another alcohol test that was carried out gave a positive result. The result: 1.96 per mille.
Driving license revoked
The driver’s license was therefore temporarily revoked and the driver was prohibited from driving any further. Another driver was also spoken to. He stated that he was just able to avoid the ghost driver and thus avoid a head-on collision.
