Castets (NFP) claims to be “ready” to form coalitions and govern France

Date:

The candidate for the French premiership has judged the dialogue with President Emmanuel Macron as satisfactory. He has defended the legitimacy of the NFP to form a government, as it is the most voted option, while of course being aware that they must make “commitments”.

The candidate for French Prime Minister New Popular Front (NFP), Lucie Castetshas assured that it is “ready from today to build coalitions, to debate with the other political forces to try to find a way that guarantees the stability of the country and ultimately responds to the urgent needs expressed by the French people.” This was emphasized by Castets in statements to the press after the meeting of the leaders of the left-wing coalition with the President, Emmanuel Macron.

Castets explained, leaving the meeting at the Elysée, that the dialogue was satisfactory and that Macron had acknowledged that French citizens had sent a message of change in the July elections. However, according to Castets, the “temptation” of the head of state to “form his government” is still there.

She has defended that, as the leading political force in terms of the number of deputies (193 together with her partners) after the elections on July 7, it is up to the NFP to govern. However, they are aware that they do not have an absolute majority (289) and that they must find a “compromise”.

The NFP leaders generally assessed the meeting positively and in particular that Macron admitted to having extended the invitation to Castets, since initially – and as will happen with the rest of the parties – only the group leaders and parliamentary leaders were invited to the Elysée.

Among the NFP leaders who also attended the meeting at the Elysée, the Socialist Party’s first secretary, Olivier Faure, also stressed that although no date has been set, the announcement of a new prime minister will be “soon”.

“There are urgent problems that need to be addressed and it is serious and even irresponsible to let weeks pass without addressing them,” said the national secretary of Los Ecologistas, Marine Tondelier.

“The President of the Republic seems to be beginning to understand that he has lost these parliamentary elections, but he still does not seem to be drawing all the consequences,” said Manuel Bompard, coordinator of the House of Representatives. Rebellious France (LFI), which together with the French Communist Party completes the four families of the NFP.

It is precisely the presence of this most radical group, founded by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, that raises the most questions about the NFP’s ability to reach agreements with other forces. For the time being, the rest of the major blocs threaten to overthrow any government that includes LFI figures, including Macronism.

But with an important detail the first secretary of the Socialist Party told the press during today’s meeting Macron has admitted That all forces that participated in the ‘republican front’ to put an end to what seemed an inevitable victory for the far right They have the legitimacy to rule.

After the NFP, Macron will receive representatives from his own party and the conservatives of the Republican Right, as well as from other minority formations.

On Monday, it is the turn of the far right of Marine Le Pen, which was aiming for victory in the elections last July, but had to settle for the third power in the National Assembly because of the cordon sanitaire organised by the rest of the parties.
