Unknown attacker kills three people with knife in Germany

At least there was a knife attack three dead and five seriously injured in Solingen (Germany), according to official sources. The attack took place at 10 p.m. on Friday at a party celebrating the 650th anniversary of the city of Solingen.

Police have asked the public to provide evidence or images from the moment of the attack via an internet portal created especially for this purpose, in an attempt to strengthen the search criteria.

The incidents occurred during a concert that was part of the festival, which has been suspended. Residents have been asked to avoid the old city center and stay home if possible.

“In Solingen we are all shocked. We wanted to celebrate the birthday of our city and now we have to mourn the dead and the wounded. I have tears in my eyes and my heart is broken. I think of those who died and I pray for those who are still fighting for their lives,” wrote Solingen Mayor Tim Kurzbach on Facebook.

The attack came days after Interior Minister Nancy Faeser announced plans to restrict the carrying of long knives in public. According to police statistics, 9,000 cases of knife injuries were recorded in Germany last year.
