Following the murder of a 36-year-old Carinthian in Knappenberg (municipality of Hüttenberg, district of St. Veit an der Glan), the public prosecutor’s office published details of the crime on Saturday.
There had been an earlier altercation between the 43-year-old suspect and the victim in a bar. When the older man left the restaurant, the younger man followed him to his home, where he was shot at close range by the perpetrator with a Flobert rifle that he legally owned.
The 36-year-old victim was an acquaintance of the son of the partner of the suspected perpetrator, said Tina Frimmel-Hesse, spokeswoman for the Klagenfurt public prosecutor’s office.
The argument continued outside the front door
After the fight in a bar, the 43-year-old from Carinthia drove home, and the future victim followed him with his partner’s son. The fight continued outside the front door and three people allegedly threatened the man, according to his interview. The perpetrator then came out of the house with the weapon and fired a shot at close range into the opponent’s chest, which was immediately fatal.
The crime took place around 23:00. The 43-year-old then called the emergency number and turned himself in to the police. Alcohol is also said to have been involved in the crime. The victim himself was active and well-known in the racing world, as is evident from condolences and shocked messages on social media.
According to Frimmel-Hesse, the suspect has already been taken to prison and a decision will be made on Sunday on whether he will be remanded in custody. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has not yet been able to provide any information on the content of the dispute.
