The sculptor and draftsman Udo Rabensteiner, born in Lustenau in 1958, is a quiet giant in the Vorarlberg art scene – and a great expert. The writer Robert Schneider recently visited him in his studio in Lustenau.
Udo Rabensteiner does not like the spotlight and does not like to be portrayed as an artist, which nowadays often overshadows his own artistic work. “PR is often more important than what is actually shown,” he philosophizes. Art should speak exclusively for itself, only in the viewer’s contemplation of the work of art. This does not require an explanation from the person who created the image, sculpture or installation. The act of creation is the miracle, not what is subsequently discussed in galleries and exhibitions. In this formula, Rabensteiner expresses the impulse of his artistic intention.
