A passerby who was near Vienna’s Universitätsring on Saturday evening around 6 p.m. saw a man on the street harassing and eventually attacking several other passers-by.
Officers were able to arrest the man shortly after arrival. The 47-year-old Portuguese appeared to the officers to be drunk.
Man injured in the back of the head
During the clarification of the facts, a 35-year-old approached the officers with visible, bleeding injuries to his legs and the back of his head. The 35-year-old and several other passers-by had been attacked by the 47-year-old shortly before without provocation, sometimes very aggressively.
The 35-year-old received first aid from Vienna’s professional rescue service and was taken to a hospital. The 47-year-old was temporarily detained on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm.
