An Austrian woman (71) died on Monday on the beach of the northern Italian holiday resort of Jesolo. Other swimmers brought her to the shore and raised the alarm – but in vain.
The pensioner went into the sea to cool off shortly after 11am and suddenly collapsed. Other swimmers noticed the incident, ran over and brought the woman to the shore. After raising the alarm, lifeguards and a professional nurse arrived at the scene of the accident, the Jesolo coastguard said. An ambulance was also present.
But despite resuscitation measures, all help came too late for the 71-year-old. She had been on the beach with family.
