“Can’t get away with it” – England: Child (11) arrested after riots

Date:

Police have also arrested an 11-year-old child following the right-wing extremist and anti-Muslim riots in Britain. The authority did not provide further information on gender or specific charges on Wednesday.

Sky News reports that this is likely to be the youngest suspect in connection with the unrest. Until now, two 12-year-olds were considered the youngest suspects, and the sentence against one of them is expected to be announced next week.

“You won’t get away with it”
Police said they have arrested a further 14 people, aged between 11 and 43, over rioting in the north-east English town of Middlesbrough on August 4. “The message is: ‘You will not get away with this’,” Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Robinson said. “We can identify you and we will arrest you, you will be arrested and brought before the courts.”

Already 1000 arrests
Nationally, police have arrested more than 1,000 people, charged hundreds and sentenced many to prison terms. The riots followed a fatal knife attack in the town of Southport, in which three girls were stabbed and several children and two adults were injured.

False news was spread on social media that the perpetrator was a Muslim migrant. The suspect is an 18-year-old boy, born in Great Britain and whose parents are from Rwanda.
