Bad news for passengers on the Ausserfernbahn: no trains will be running for days on the Deutsche Bahn-operated connection between Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Reutte in Tyrol and Pfronten-Steinach. Construction work is not the reason. This one is a lot stranger.
“Due to several recent reports of illness among our drivers, all trains on the Garmisch-Partenkirchen – Reutte – Pfronten-Steinach route have to be cancelled from Thursday until 4 September,” a railway spokeswoman explained to the “Krone”.
Replacement bus transport
As an emergency measure, a replacement bus service was set up. Passengers should consult the railway channels for departure times and stops before departure. “We apologize to passengers for the restrictions,” the spokeswoman continued.
Emergency measures are followed by construction work
But even after this interim solution has expired, there will soon be no more trains on the route. From 5 September (until 13 September), planned construction work will take place between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Pfronten-Steinach. “There will also be a replacement rail service then,” concludes the spokeswoman.
