Fatal alpine accident in the Tyrolean Oberland on Thursday: a 36-year-old local man fell 100 meters during a mountain hike. After the man had lost contact with his girlfriend, his body was discovered during a helicopter flight.
In the early morning hours, the 36-year-old resident left the Straßberghaus near Telfs (Innsbruck Land district) for a hike towards Karkopf. “Around 7:00 he had telephone contact with his partner. Then he wanted to contact her again after reaching the summit,” the police said.
Smartphone remained silent
But the friend’s mobile phone did not ring. After she could no longer reach him, she reported him missing. Then a search flight was carried out with the Libelle Tirol police helicopter. Soon there was a sad certainty.
Body found in steep gully
“The man was found dead southwest of the Karkopf, in a steep gully. “He fell approximately 100 meters over extremely steep, rocky terrain,” the investigators continued. The man’s body was recovered by helicopter and flown into the valley.
