Toxic gases escaped from an apartment in Graz on Thursday evening due to a burning battery of an e-scooter. The two residents had to be taken to hospital; three cats were also rescued by the professional fire brigade.
Shortly before midnight on Thursday, the professional fire brigade of Graz was called to an apartment in the Lend district where a gas leak was suspected. When they arrived, the two residents could not give a precise reason for their discomfort, only that they had heard a hissing sound and were suffering from shortness of breath. They were given first aid by the fire brigade and then taken to hospital by the Red Cross.
While searching for the possible gas leak, the fire department discovered the real reason for the two women’s discomfort: they found an e-scooter whose batteries had begun to decompose, causing them to heat up and emit toxic white smoke. The fire department also found three cats nearby, which fortunately were able to be removed from the apartment unharmed.
The e-scooter was taken outside and cooled in a container of water.
