“No Intention” – Man Jumped Off Bridge, Killing Passenger

Date:

In the fatally wrong place at the wrong time. There is no other way to describe the tragic death of a 59-year-old from the Los Angeles suburb of Sylmar. Margarita Galindo was in the passenger seat of her car when a man jumped off a bridge and crashed through the windshield at full speed.

Galindo’s husband, Florencio, was behind the wheel as the couple drove along Highway 210 to visit their grandchildren in San Bernardino. At about 7 p.m., he was driving under a bridge at the Roxford Drive exit when a suicidal man jumped from a height of about 50 feet into the roadway. He crashed headfirst through the windshield, fatally hitting Margarita Galindo.

Driver was unharmed
Florencio Galindo, who was uninjured, skidded briefly but was able to pull over to the right side of the road and call 911. His son David told local TV station KTLA: “My dad was in shock and called me on his cell phone. He didn’t know what happened and he just couldn’t open the door.”

Son: “Loss is unfair and tragic”
By the time the emergency doctor arrived, all help was already too late for the man who jumped from the bridge. Margarita Galindos was taken to the emergency room brain dead and in a coma for a long time, until her family decided to turn off the machines. Her son David is still stunned: “My mother was an incredibly loving woman who cared for everyone. Your loss is simply unfair and beyond tragic! If dad had gone under the bridge for a second sooner or later, everything would be fine.”

The family has set up a fundraising website at gofundme.com to help pay for funeral expenses. Widower Florencio said in a statement that he bore no hatred for the suicide: “I don’t know what problems caused him to die. He didn’t mean for my wife to die.”
