German restaurant bans sweatpants

Date:

A German restaurant owner is now pulling the cord because of the bad behavior of those wearing sweatpants.

Lambros Petrou had had enough. The owner of the Art Café in Pforzheim, Germany, had been insulted too often in his own restaurant by people wearing sweatpants. Some of them even urinated in his flower boxes. So he decided: stop with the baggy look. Anyone who comes in sweatpants must stay outside from now on!

“At one point the limit was full”
“I never wanted to tell anyone how to dress,” says Petrou. “But at some point, the limit was reached.” It wasn’t the pants themselves, but the lack of respect from many of the wearers that forced him to take this drastic step.

“People didn’t come to drink coffee, they came to cause trouble.” The ban, which he announced with a bright red sign in front of the café, initially caused a stir. Some regulars were skeptical, but many others were happy with the new rule. “It’s about respect,” says an older customer who has been a regular at the Art Café for years. “Petrou is doing the right thing.” Since the ban, the situation at the Art Café has calmed down. “It’s like I have my café back,” says Petrou. The atmosphere is relaxed again, the guests like to come and feel at ease.
