Several shots were fired in the center of Munich on Thursday morning. Police report an operation near the NS documentation center.
“In the area of Karolinenplatz, police forces fired at a suspicious person and the person was hit,” Munich police wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “The area of operations has been cordoned off over a large area.”
Police had previously posted that a major operation was underway in the area around Briennerstrasse and Karolinenplatz. “We have numerous emergency services on site,” they said. “Many emergency services are on their way to the site in the vicinity of the NS documentation center.”
In order to work unhindered, the police ask you to avoid this area. A helicopter is now in the air. “With this tool we get a better overview of the current situation from the air,” according to the police.
The incident took place on the anniversary of the 1972 Munich Olympics attack, which was carried out by the Palestinian terrorist group “Black September” on the Israeli team.
