At least 17 people have been killed in a fire in the dormitory of a school in Kenya. The fire reportedly broke out around midnight in the dormitory wing of the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kenya’s central Nyeri district.
Several people were also injured after Friday night’s fire, police spokeswoman Resila Onyango said Friday. Accordingly, 16 seriously injured people were taken to a nearby hospital.
“Bodies burned beyond recognition”
Police did not provide information on the ages of the victims. “The bodies were burned beyond recognition,” Onyango said. They said it was “likely that more bodies will be recovered” once the fire site was fully accessible.
According to the spokeswoman, the cause of the fire was initially unclear. The police have started an investigation.
