A hike in the Tyrolean mountains ended in hospital for a 27-year-old on Saturday. The local woman slipped on the path and hit her head on a rock. A German mountaineer (43) was also injured during a hike.
Shortly before 1 p.m., the 27-year-old Austrian was driving from the Kasseler Hütte in Mayrhofen along the red-marked path towards the Edelhütte. “She slipped on the path and hit her head on a rock,” the police said. The woman was seriously injured and had to be flown by rescue helicopter to the state hospital in Hall in Tirol.
German flown to clinic in Innsbruck
Also in the Zillertal, around 10:00 a.m., a 43-year-old German climbed from the Friesenberghaus in Finkenberg towards the Hoher Riffler (3,231 m) in the Tux Alps. “Shortly after 1:30 p.m., he fell about 30 meters over rocky terrain while descending the black-marked hiking trail, sustaining serious injuries,” the director said. The man was taken by the ambulance helicopter to an intermediate landing site with the rope and treated there by the emergency doctor. The German was then flown to the clinic in Innsbruck, where he was admitted to hospital.
