Tragic accident on Saturday afternoon in St. Gallen in the Styrian district of Liezen: a couple aged 77 and 75 died after colliding with a house wall.
Saturday afternoon around 2:00 p.m., a 77-year-old man from the Leoben region was driving on the B 117 in the St. Gallen region. The man suddenly lost control of his vehicle, as the police describe it. The cause of this is unknown.
The driver and his 75-year-old wife in the passenger seat left the road on a left bend and collided head-on with a house wall. “The vehicle then rolled over several times,” the police wrote. It only came to a stop after 70 meters.
Help came too late for both prisoners
The emergency services did what they could: the fire brigade freed the couple from the car. The driver was flown by helicopter to the UKH in Linz, where he died. The passenger died at the scene of the accident.
The B117 was closed during the operation. During the operation, four police patrols, two volunteer fire brigades with thirty emergency services, three paramedics and the medical emergency team of the rescue helicopter were on site.
