On Monday morning, two smugglers fled from the police in Burgenland after being checked at the border crossing. They broke through a roadblock and ended up with the vehicle on the rails. A woman in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
At around 10 a.m., Nickelsdorf police gave chase to the vehicle that had passed through the Kittsee border crossing. They then came to rest in Zurndorf after an accident near the station and landing on the track.
There were 26 people in the vehicle
There were 26 people in the car: nine children, eleven men and six women. One of them came from Afghanistan, the others from Turkey. Two suspected smugglers from Romania and Turkey were arrested. During the recovery of the vehicles, the railway line between Nickelsdorf and Parndorf had to be closed.
