He was best man when James Shira and Savahna Collier pledged their undying loyalty to each other. But shortly after the wedding, Terry Taylor Jr. was deliberately run over – by the groom and his newlywed wife.
According to the Flint Police Department on Facebook, Shirah and Collier exchanged vows in the backyard of a friend’s house in Flint, Michigan. Taylor Jr. was present as a witness.
Around 8 p.m., a neighbor called 911 to report that “a pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a car.” An ambulance took Taylor Jr. to the emergency room of a local hospital, where he died of severe internal injuries.
According to the police report, the father of three had been arguing with the groom before the accident: “The argument escalated. Shirah was driving a large SUV with his wife in the passenger seat. They were driving at a high rate of speed and deliberately rammed the deceased as he was crossing the road.”
According to prosecutor David Leyton, Shirah (22) and Collier (21) then left the scene of the accident.
Shirah is facing trial for manslaughter. He is being held without bail. His wife was charged with aiding and abetting, but was released on $4,000 bail until the trial began.
