Terrible accident on Monday morning in the Tyrolean lowlands: a fully loaded car collided head-on with an oncoming garbage truck near Kirchbichl (Kufstein district). In total, the violent collision resulted in seven injuries. The result was a major operation.
The fatal accident occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Brixentalstrasse (B170) in the Bruckhäusl district. As described by the police in response to a “Krone” request, a 49-year-old driver drove straight ahead into a right-hand bend for unknown reasons, after which the car collided head-on with an oncoming truck with full force.
Four passengers in the car, three in the truck
There were four people in the car in total – besides the driver (a stateless person) three Syrians. There were two locals and a Croat in the truck, a garbage truck.
One person transported by helicopter
All seven people were injured. “One occupant of the car had to be freed by the fire brigade using rescue shears. After initial treatment, he was flown to the clinic in Innsbruck by emergency helicopter,” a police spokesman explained.
The remaining injured were taken by ambulance to the Kufstein district hospital. During the operation, Brixentalstrasse was closed to all traffic for about an hour.
