The Israeli Air Force says it has struck a command center of the Islamist Hamas group in a humanitarian zone in the Gaza Strip, killing dozens.
At least 40 people were killed and more than 60 wounded in the airstrike, according to the director of supplies for the Gaza Civil Defense. Tents housing internally displaced people were hit.
Israel allegedly used precision munitions
According to the Israeli military, numerous measures were taken before the attack with precision munitions to reduce the risk of harm to civilians. The army did not provide information on possible casualties that night. It simply stated that terrorists had attacked Israeli forces and the State of Israel from the Khan Younis zone in the south of the disputed coastal area.
In July, the Israeli military bombed a fenced-off facility in the humanitarian zone between Khan Younis and Al-Mawasi, which Israel claims was a base for Hamas terrorists. Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif and the commander of Hamas’s Khan Younis Brigade, Rafa Salama, were killed in the attack.
Deif is considered one of the central masterminds of the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on October 7 last year. The attack led to the war in Gaza. According to the Hamas-controlled health authority, the massive airstrike killed 90 people and wounded another 300.
