Shortly before 11:00 a continuous snow avalanche probably occurred in the Karwendel in the municipality of Vomp (district of Schwaz). According to the Tyrol control center, the accident occurred on the summer path between Gasthof Eng and the Niederleger of the Binsalm (approx. 1500 m). A hiking group of 30 people was on the way and one person was buried. The victim did not have an avalanche transceiver with him. There is no information yet whether the buried person has already been rescued.
Auxiliary troops from Austria and Bavaria
The operation is currently underway. The “Libelle Tirol” was in action, but has not yet arrived at the scene of the accident due to bad weather. The Achenkirch mountain rescue service and the Bavarian Lenggries mountain rescue service are on site.
Meanwhile, Bavarian avalanche detection dogs have also been alerted. In addition, German helicopters are now trying to reach the accident site from the Bavarian side.
There is a risk of subsequent avalanches
The German helicopters try to evacuate the remaining 29 hikers. However, it is difficult to use. The reason: threatening subsequent avalanches cause enormous danger.
