According to initial findings, the woman was walking when she was hit by broken parts of a tree, the Oberland regional public prosecutor’s office announced on Saturday via the short message service “X”.
Flown to hospital by rescue helicopter
The woman was so badly injured that she had to be taken to hospital by rescue helicopter, where she later died from her injuries. The Bern cantonal police and the public prosecutor’s office are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident.
In Austria, the storms caused numerous fallen trees and broken branches. In many places, authorities urged people to “avoid unnecessary routes”.
Numerous events have been cancelled in large parts of the country. Emergency services are permanently on standby. Some railway lines and roads are closed and there are also delays in air traffic.
