At the international small animal exhibition in Arriach, several hundred animals were presented, such as rabbits, poultry, sheep, goats and ponies. When the strong wind suddenly blew over the event tents, quick action had to be taken.
The predicted strong winds cause fallen trees and power outages throughout Carinthia. “The volunteer fire brigade of Arriach was called out on Saturday for an urgent operation during the Arriach village days,” says the district fire brigade command Villach-Land. Numerous animals had to be rescued.
Tents served as shelter for animals
A gust of wind hit two event tents, one of which was made safe thanks to the Florianis’ quick intervention: “The second tent was hit by the strong wind and completely destroyed.”
“About 200 small animals such as rabbits, chickens and pigeons were taken to a nearby building in a quick rescue operation. Except for a few escaped pigeons, all the animals were rescued,” the district command said.
