Spectacular accident on Friday in Nassereith (district Imst). A Ukrainian (58) ended up in the ditch on Mieminger Strasse with his truck, probably due to insufficient speed. Shortly afterwards, the vehicle caught fire. With the help of other road users, the driver was able to get out of the truck in time.
The accident happened around 21:20 on Friday. The Ukrainian was driving his truck on Mieminger Strasse towards Fernpass. In a right-hand bend, he probably lost control of his vehicle due to insufficient speed.
He slipped on the oncoming vehicle and then fell into a ditch next to the road. He also crashed into a concrete element of a waterway. More than ten minutes after the accident, the truck started to burn.
The driver probably fled in shock
The 58-year-old was lucky: other road users helped him get out of the vehicle. When the Nassereith volunteer fire brigade arrived, the truck was already completely on fire. The driver was unharmed, but was taken to the Zams district hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. The road was closed for more than 45 minutes.
