While parts of the Lower Austrian town of Zwettl were already under water in the evening hours, a driver tried to drive into the flood zone. His car remained afloat and the fire brigade had to be called.
What was going on in the driver’s mind later on Saturday evening is unclear. Despite road closures in Zwettl due to flooding, he drove around the signs and fences and drove right into the flood zone.
His car immediately floated on the water and drifted through the water.
Freed from the car unharmed
The fire brigades of Zwettl Stadt and Rumanns responded to a possible rescue. However, on site it turned out that the unfortunate driver was able to free himself from the car. He was not injured, but his damaged vehicle had to be rescued by the Florianis.
