Getxo remains one of the most expensive municipalities to make purchases in the Spanish state

Date:

Similarly, the CAV, along with the Balearic and Canary Islands, is on average one of the three most expensive communities in which to make a purchase.

Getxo remains one of the most expensive municipalities when it comes to filling the shopping basket in the supermarkets of the Spanish state, behind Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) and Palma (Mallorca). This is evident once again from the latest annual survey of supermarkets in the United States Organisation of consumers and users (OCU).

Presenting the report, the organization’s spokesperson Ileana Izverniceanu pointed out that average annual expenditure per household has increased to 6342 euroswith a maximum possible annual saving of 4,148 euros. He also stressed that, at a time of general price increases, the average saving in the shopping basket by choosing the cheapest establishments this year 1273 euros20.5% more than in 2023.

Household spending on grocery shopping has increased by 5.4% annually, but this year there is more price variation between chains, some of which have even reduced their price differences, the OCU said.

The study shows that Alcampo is the cheapest option for shopping in 25 cities, followed by Mercadonain eight cities, Consum in seven and Family Cash and Tifer, the cheapest options in six cities. Similarly, supermarket chains have lowered prices for the first time in two years Carrefour Emphaticwhich reduced them by 0.9%, followed by Lidl (-0.7%) and Aldi (-0.6%), while others increased them, such as El Corte Inglés (+9.7%) and Hipercor (+8.2%).

The technical manager of the study, Miguel Ángel Pascual, explained that Getxo is among the cities with the least potential for savings. According to him, this is due to the fact that “many small towns lack a wide range of supermarkets.”

The cities where it is cheapest to fill the shopping basket are Teruel and Zamora, followed by Vigo, Lugo and Jerez de la Frontera. In turn, Galicia, La Rioja, the Valencian Community and Castilla y León are the cheapest autonomous communities to make the purchase.

The report analyzed a total of 152,766 product prices from May 2023 to May of this year after visiting 1,070 establishments.
