New wave of attacks? – Devices explode again in Lebanon

Date:

In Lebanon, there is now an atmosphere of alarm: after the pager attack, which was allegedly coordinated by Israel, there are new reports of explosions. Again, it is said that they are electronic devices, such as pagers or radios.

Fears of a major wave of attacks were already circulating in Beirut. The devices that exploded on Wednesday were probably radio receivers such as pagers, walkie-talkies and radios. Videos and images on social networks suggest that this will probably be another large-scale operation.

Shortly before Tuesday’s first explosions, the head of the government’s emergency committee, Nasser Yassin, told Lebanon’s NNA news agency: “We have presented possible scenarios in the event of widespread Israeli attacks.”

Preparations are underway for a major attack, but the scale of the current explosions is still unclear. Yassin said the Ministry of Education has provided a list of about 100 schools that could serve as emergency shelters. They are currently being supplied with the most essential supplies. Many hospitals have been completely overcrowded since Tuesday.

Food for three months
According to government information in Lebanon, food supplies are currently sufficient for more than three months. In addition, they are in contact with the United Nations World Food Programme to guarantee the delivery of 50,000 food parcels for displaced families.

Hezbollah blamed Israel for the radio receiver explosions and vowed retaliation. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called the action a “disgrace” to the West. Israel has not publicly acknowledged the attack.

About 2,800 people were injured and several people were killed in the so-called pager explosions in Lebanon. Among the injured were numerous members of the pro-Iranian Shiite organization Hezbollah.

How could business continue?
Political and military observers saw the first coordinated attack as part of a larger plan. Experts are certain that parts of the communications are currently paralyzed by the exploding pagers. This would pave the way for a large-scale attack. The new explosions on Wednesday support this assumption.

Since the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Islamist Hamas began almost a year ago, there have also been almost daily military clashes between Israel and Hezbollah. There are concerns that the conflict could worsen further.
