“The Eyes of Evil” – Austria’s Most Dangerous Prisoner Dead in Cell

Date:

He had never renounced the “eyes of evil” and terror: Tawfik Ben Ahmed Chaovali was responsible for the deaths of three people at Vienna-Schwechat airport and was considered the most dangerous prisoner in Austria – now the terrorist is dead.

Tawfik Ben Ahmed Chaovali grew up in a refugee camp in Lebanon in the early 1960s and became a member of the Palestinian precursor organization PLO.

One of the worst attacks on Austrian soil
When his father is killed in an Israeli airstrike, he joins the terrorist group Abu Nidal out of hatred. And carries out one of the worst attacks on Austrian soil!

Christmas time turned into a bloodbath
It is shortly after Christmas, December 27, 1985. Three attackers arrive via Hungary with false passports and strike at Vienna-Schwechat Airport. Their original goal, hijacking an Israeli El Al plane, fails at the flight counter because of attentive police and guards.

Sentenced to life imprisonment in 1987
Suddenly, hand grenades fly and a machine gun battle breaks out. Two Austrians are killed: a 26-year-old woman and a teacher (50), as well as an Israeli citizen. A terrorist dies during a chase in a hail of bullets; Chaovali and his accomplice are sentenced to life imprisonment in 1987. While the accomplice was released after 22 years and left for Jordan, the terrorist has been in prison for 38 years so far. This makes him the record prisoner who is still alive.

Outbreak of 1995
Also because in May 1995 the ticking time bomb from Garsten prison broke out and two years later together with two other harbor brothers in Graz-Karlau threatened two security guards with a stabbing weapon and took three female employees of the prison shop hostage with homemade bottle bombs with nitro thinner from the prison workshop. After an hour-long thriller the elite Cobra group overwhelms the trio.

“Converted” to ISIS
Until the very last moment, Chaovali did not renounce terror and “convert” to the IS murder gang. According to fellow prisoners and judicial staff, when you look at his face, you are looking into “the eyes of evil” behind closed doors.

Now the country’s most dangerous prisoner, 64 years old, has been found lifeless in his cell in the maximum security wing of Stein Prison (Lower Austria). His death marks the end of a bloody chapter in Austrian criminal history…
