five women They claim to have been raped by the late billionaire Mohamed Al-Fayedformer owner of Harrodswhen they worked at the luxury department store in London, the British chain announced on Thursday BBC.
The station says it has heard testimony from more than twenty former employees who alleged that the businessman, who died last year at the age of 94, had sexually abused them.
The documentary ‘Al-Fayed: Predator at Harrods’ The chain (Al-Fayed: Predator at Harrods) has gathered evidence showing that Harrods not only failed to intervene during Fayed’s time as owner, but also helped cover up allegations of abuse.
The current owners of Harrods have admitted they were “absolutely shocked” by the allegations. “The web of corruption and abuse in this business was unbelievable and very dark,” lawyer Bruce Drummond, from a legal team representing several women, said in the documentary.
“I made it clear that I didn’t want this to happen. I didn’t consent. I just wanted it to stop,” said one of the women, who alleges that Fayed raped her in his apartment in Park Lane, an upmarket neighbourhood in the centre of the British capital. “Mohamed Al Fayed was a monster, a sexual predator with no moral compass. He actively cultivated fear.”
The famous London department store is now owned by Harrods Ltd, a company owned by Qatar through its sovereign wealth fund, the Qatar Investment Authority. Al Fayed, of Egyptian descent, emigrated to Britain in 1974 and was already a well-known public figure when he took over Harrods in 1985.
