Mourning in Tyrol – drama about e-bikers gone unnoticed for hours

Date:

A 37-year-old from Reith im Alpbachtal in Tyrol wanted to ski down a steep ski slope into the valley on Friday evening. He missed a small stream and then fell. The drama initially went unnoticed for several hours.

Horror and sadness in Reith im Alpbachtal: A young resident had a fatal accident with his e-bike on Friday evening. The man had visited an inn on the Reither Kogel with two colleagues. According to the investigation, it was probably around 6 p.m. when the trio of cyclists started their journey home at about 800 meters above sea level.

“They chose the normal route via the Hygna district. A second cyclist drove over the mown meadow and the 37-year-old followed him,” says Andreas Haas of the Kramsach police station.

Floor for water over the mountainside
In winter the slope is a ski slope and initially relatively steep (30 degrees). This is followed by a flatter area in which a trench killed the e-biker: “He must have overlooked the approximately 40 centimeters deep watercourse, fell and only came to rest 18 meters later,” Haas noted.

Since the three men had not agreed to meet again that evening in the valley, no one took the tragedy at first. It was not until around 8:13 p.m. that a man walking on the footpath near the accident site noticed the victim. The C4 emergency doctor’s helicopter flew straight to the Reither Kogel, but the doctor was only able to determine the death of the local cook and father of a child. Eight men from the Kramsach mountain rescue service, who were also alarmed, then had the sad task of recovering the body.

Victim probably bumped his head
The exact cause of death was initially unknown. As police were able to reconstruct, the victim may have hit his head on the ground after flying through the air.
