A Republican candidate for governor of the US state of North Carolina has caused a stir with disturbing comments on a porn website, including describing himself as a “black Nazi”.
After the CNN report, he rejected calls from his own party to resign: “We’re staying in the race,” Robinson explained, calling the report on his controversial statements “salacious tabloid lies.”
Here Robinson responds to the allegations in a video message:
Robinson declared that he would ‘buy some slaves’.
The network reported that Robinson described himself as a “pervert” and a “black Nazi” on a porn website called Naked Africa more than a decade ago. The African-American also wrote that slavery “wasn’t bad… I’d definitely buy a few.” During the current election campaign, Robinson’s earlier statements in which he trivialized the Holocaust and praised Adolf Hitler have also been criticized.
Trump’s spokeswoman avoided direct comment
The politician is currently lieutenant governor of North Carolina, one of the most hotly contested swing states in the U.S. presidential election. He is backed by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. In response to a question about the CNN report on Robinson, a Trump spokeswoman said the former president was focused on getting into the White House and saving the country. “North Carolina is a key part of that plan,” she added.
