The UAGA union criticizes the fact that the Basque government’s plan allows the expansion of the wolf. Currently, there are two wolf packs in the CAV, one west of Bizkaia and another near the border of Álava with Burgos.
The Basque Government’s Minister of Food, Rural Development, Agriculture and Fisheries, Amaia Barredo, has insisted on her request to the ministry to remove the wolf from the LESPRE (List of Wild Species under a Special Protection Regime).

Currently in the CAV there are two parcels of lobosm, one west of Bizkaia and another near the border of Álava with Burgos. The farmers most affected by the attacks of these animals are in Karrantza (Bizkaia), Urkabustaiz, Kuartango and Aiara (Álava).
Barredo has expressed his support for the group of shepherds in the area affected by the wolf actions between Burgos, Álava and Bizkaia. A few days ago, the councilor asked the Minister of Agriculture, Luis Planas, to remove the wolf from the LESPRE (List of Wild Species under Special Protection Regime).
A similar letter was also sent from Lakua to then Minister Teresa Ribera in June 2023, without any response being received.
Also during today’s fair, the Agricultural Union Alavés, UAGAhas complained about the attacks and called for structural measures to deal with their expansion.
