A Carinthian woman made an unusual discovery in a bathtub this weekend. A lizard-like creature had crawled out of the drain, got stuck and eventually died.
Austrians have already encountered animals in their bathrooms several times this year, and now there is another case in Carinthia: “Help, the ‘thing’ got stuck when trying to get out of the sewer and died,” a Carinthian woman wrote on the Facebook group “Villacher Help Villachern” and also posted the photos of the “intruder” there.
“It was really stuck.”
The animal had crawled into the bathtub of her grandmother, who lives on the first floor of the house. The big problem: it was difficult to remove the dead animal from the drain. “I was really scared and it really got stuck,” said the Carinthian woman.
Expert has identified the animal
As soon as the story was online, speculations began: what animal was it? Many users on social media agreed that it had to be a sand lizard, a reptile species that is common in Austria.
To clarify the matter, the ‘Krone’ turned to Carinthian reptile expert Helga Happ: ‘The animal is clearly a sand lizard that was probably looking for a place to hibernate in the house’s drainage system.’
Ultimately, the dead lizard could only be removed from the bathtub drain with pliers.
