Three civilians were killed in Ukrainian shelling in the western Russian region of Belgorod, and four were wounded in a nearby town, the region’s governor said Monday.
An 11-year-old girl was taken to hospital and the child’s mother had both feet amputated, Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on Telegram. One of the three dead was a minor. Places close to the border, such as Belgorod, often come under fire from the Ukrainian side.
Conversely, since the beginning of the war, Russian forces have repeatedly shelled Kharkiv, formerly Ukraine’s second-largest city with 760,000 inhabitants, also resulting in many casualties (see video above).
Glide bombs hit Zaporizhia
One of the most recent Russian airstrikes took place in the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhia, where 16 people were injured, according to local authorities. In total, several residential buildings, two kindergartens and several cars were damaged in the nighttime attack, Ukrainian police said.
The city was first bombed with so-called glide bombs. Glide bombs are dropped by Russian jet fighters at the front and then aimed at the target over tens of kilometers. These bombs, which contain several hundred kilograms of explosives, have already caused serious damage in Kharkov and elsewhere. Western weapons against Russian air bases at the front are intended to prevent these attacks.
