During a search for a missing 71-year-old from Tyrol, rescuers found a body in Loferbach in the Pinzgau region of Salzburg on Friday afternoon. According to the Salzburg police, the dead woman is probably the same woman who has been missing from her apartment in Waidring (Kitzbühel district) since September 16.
The police assumed it was an accident. During initial searches by the local police, fire brigade, mountain rescue and water rescue teams, items of clothing were found in the Haselbach area. On Friday, the search was expanded across the border to Pinzgau, the Salzburg water rescue service reported in a broadcast on Saturday.
Loferbach and Saalach searched
Water rescuers searched the Loferbach and Saalach. The heavily blocked stream was carefully searched by river and whitewater rescuers, and divers, sonar and diving robots were deployed to a power plant just before Lofer. The Saalach was navigated with whitewater boats and walked with foot troops.
The police dog picked up the scent
The operation was supported by the police with sniffer dogs and drones and by the Lofer fire brigade. Around 4 p.m., a police dog picked up a scent on the banks of the Loferbach, shortly after the state border with Salzburg. Water rescuers found and recovered the body.
