In the statement, management and the committee explained that in an “extremely complicated environment for the automotive world, with a weakening of markets and an increase in trade barriers”, the Vitoria-Gasteiz plant “faces the future from a solid position that offers us the opportunity to VAN.EA project -the electric van-in our hands”.

Today’s meeting also started discussions on the situation for next year 2025, “the most decisive year” for the future of the plant, since the investments carried out by the Mercedes-Benz Group – over a billion euros – for the start-up of the facilities from which the new model, based on the VAN-EA platform, will be launched on the global market.

The purpose of the contacts that have been initiated is to find ‘consensus’ to jointly tackle the problems variations in the production schedule next year 2025, while ensuring the start-up of the facilities and the launch of the vehicle with measures that do not affect employment.
