Israel has launched an intense artillery bombardment on the Lebanese town of Wazzani, very close to the border with Israel, sparking speculation about a possible “imminent” Israeli ground invasion of Lebanon.

Israel has informed the United States that it plans to carry out an action.ground operations with limited rangeagainst Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon, the US State Department said.

“I have seen some reports about ground operations. We’ve had some conversations with them. They told us these are limited operations targeting Hezbollah infrastructure near the border,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller explained at a news conference.

Miller added that it is up to Israel to provide more details about “the timing and purpose” of these operations.

In the same vein, the newspaper The Washington Post has reported that the military operation being prepared by Israel aims to destroy rocket launchers used by the Shiite group to attack cities in northern Israel.

The Israeli army stated on Monday “closed military zone“to several communities a few kilometers from the border with Lebanon, where everyone is denied entry.

It’s over the border communities of Metula, Misgav Am and Kfar Giladi. Both Metula, about six kilometers from the gorge, and the kibbutzim Misgav Am and Kfar Giladi, even closer, have been evacuated for almost a year, after the start of the crossfire with Hezbollah due to the war in Gaza. Schools, farms and homes have been abandoned following the displacement of some 60,000 Israelis from the northern border.

In these communities there are only community “self-defense” groups, arms of the military, made up of reservists from the area who would be in charge of protecting their villages in the event of an attack.
