A few guardian angels were probably particularly attentive. When two couples from Vienna and Lower Austria were driving their car on the Großglockner High Alpine Road, they suddenly came to a steep bend in the road.
The right-hand bend 18, “Magrötzenhang”, the Großglockner High Alpine Road was almost fatal on Monday for a 71-year-old Viennese, his 72-year-old wife and a couple from Lower Austria, both 72 years old. An accident occurred on the route from Guttal to Hochtor.
“The driver of the vehicle left the road,” police said. “The vehicle rolled several times on the steep terrain.” Fortunately, after more than 40 meters it landed back on its wheels and came to a stop. Miraculously, all occupants were able to get out of the car independently.
“An oncoming vehicle started the rescue chain,” the police continued. “The driver of the vehicle was flown to the BKH Lienz by the C7 rescue helicopter after initial treatment with injuries of undetermined severity.” As a precaution, the three other occupants were taken to the BKH Lienz by the rescue team “for clarification”. ”
It’s impossible to imagine what else could have happened. The FF Heiligenblut deployed 10 emergency services for the rescue work – as a result, the High Alpine Road was closed for almost 15 minutes. The FF Apriach – Großkirchheim and Winklern were also in action.
