Just minutes after commemorations began to mark the anniversary of Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel, several projectiles were fired from the Gaza Strip, according to the Israeli military. A dropped projectile was also discovered in an open area.
“After sirens sounded in several communities near the Gaza Strip at 6:31 a.m., four projectiles were identified as coming from the southern Gaza Strip,” the army said on Monday. Three of the projectiles were intercepted by the air force.
Hamas’ armed wing immediately claimed responsibility for the shelling. The Ezzedin al-Qassam Brigades said its fighters fired projectiles at “enemy concentrations” at the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings and at Kibbutz Holiz near the Gaza border.
At 6:29 a.m. in Israel, the commemoration of the brutal attack by Hamas began exactly one year ago with a minute of silence in Kibbutz Reim.
