Until now, the beautiful Ambras Castle Park near Innsbruck was not necessarily known as a dealer’s paradise. It is closed at night. But residents claim to have made alarming observations.
In the early evening, a walker takes a walk with his dog in Ambras Castle Park, a woman has taken a seat on a park bench and a child is trudging through the autumn leaves on the ground. Some people might have recently taken less idyllic walks around one of Innsbruck’s main attractions. They say drugs are sold in the park.
Dealer must sit behind fence with large hole
“I have repeatedly seen how men enter at the lower entrance of Ambras Castle – at the last bus stop of line C – and come out again after five minutes,” a local resident told the “Krone”.
Directly above the entrance there would be a fence with a huge hole behind which there is supposedly always a dealer. The intention is that he takes ‘weird people’ around there every ten minutes to collect their materials. “My husband and I have reported the incident to the police several times, but nothing has happened so far,” says the woman from Innsbruck in surprise.
Foot patrols regularly check the park
Fortunately, no dealer activity has been detected at Ambras Castle so far. “The Austrian Federal Gardens are responsible for the castle park itself. We pointed out to them that they had to look at the alleged hole,” explains Julia Unterlechner from the Ambras Castle press service. It can be ruled out that drug transactions take place in the guarded inner areas.
The Pradl police have also “made no such observations so far.” Foot patrols would check the park regularly.
