New witness statements in the case of the fighter who fired a warning shot at German participants during a military exercise in Friesach (Carinthia) allowed the case to be reopened. Now the woman herself says: “I wasn’t aggressive, just a little aggressive.”
A participant in the exercise is annoyed by the ‘illegal’ actions of the Carinthian fighter and tells the ‘Krone’: ‘The shot was fired over our heads immediately after getting out and without warning.’ The hunter is not scared and restless as she herself was, but “very aggressive”.
On the advice of her lawyer, the hunter does not want to comment on these new accusations: “I have told everything to the police and have not made any mistakes in the field of hunting.” The same applies to hunters as to all other people: If you feel threatened, it is best to vote for him. Emergency call. The Carinthian Hunting Act does not include a warning shot for situations in which one feels threatened by people while hunting; the Hunting Act regulates the hunting of game. For example, warning shots are allowed to scare off a wolf.
“I wasn’t aggressive, just a little aggressive”
“I’m sorry if the soldiers felt threatened,” says the huntress in an interview with “Krone”: “But I wasn’t aggressive, just a little aggressive because they didn’t greet me. You can expect a greeting.”
The Carinthian hunting community keeps a low profile: “In this case the tide turns three times,” they say. Mario Deutschmann, administrative director of the Carinthian Hunting Association: “I can’t really say anything about the current case. I only know the ‘new’ circumstances from the media. All procedures – public prosecutor’s office, district administration, weapons ban – were stopped.”
And further: “The general question now arises whether this has already been taken into account in the previous procedure or whether new circumstances have become known. However, I assume that the investigations here have been completed and properly conducted.”
“Stressful situation for all involved”
“Actually, if you haven’t already, you need to find out what really happened. Only then can one say what behavior would have been appropriate. In addition to the pure facts, you should certainly also take your personal perspective into account, because it must have been a stressful situation for everyone involved.”
If the allegations against the hunter were confirmed, she could face the loss of her hunting license. “There are always cases where hunters have to surrender their weapons. This is, for example, the case when partners are affected by domestic violence. If the hunter in question is charged, we will be forced to take away her hunting license,” says the Carinthian hunting association.
What happened?
As a reminder, the dangerous incident took place in September during an exercise between the German Bundeswehr and the Federal Army in a forest near Friesach. A 68-year-old hunter suddenly fired a shot from her rifle because she felt threatened by people in camouflage clothing – a group of German Bundeswehr soldiers conducting an exercise. A weapons ban was immediately imposed.
However, the Klagenfurt Public Prosecutor’s Office subsequently stopped the investigation against the woman – the shot was justified because the hunter was plausibly scared and ‘felt threatened by terrorists’.
