Drama in the Himalayas: – Five Russians died in an accident on an eight-thousander

Five Russian mountain climbers have died in Nepal on the world’s seventh highest mountain, Dhaulagiri in the Himalayas. The country’s tourism authority announced this on Tuesday. They probably slipped on the 8,167 meter high mountain and fell into the depths.

The Russian citizens have been missing since Sunday. Five bodies have now been discovered by a helicopter rescue team.

No decision has yet been made about the recovery. More planning, equipment and manpower would be required.

Crashed at an altitude of 7700 meters
Rakesh Gurung of the Nepal Tourism Authority said the group disappeared on Sunday evening while trying to climb the 8,167-metre Himalayan peak. The victims crashed at an altitude of 7,700 meters. Another climber who aborted the climb was reportedly rescued and taken to a hospital in the capital Kathmandu.

The mountaineering season has started
Hundreds of people from all over the world travel to the Himalayas in Nepal every year for the autumn mountain season. The mountaineers are an important source of income for the country. However, the rapid growth of the sector has led to fears that some tour operators are making concessions on safety.
