A pardoned ex-soldier from the Russian city of Astrakhan, recruited into a dark penal colony, brutally stabbed the mother of his 13-year-old daughter. The woman is said to have previously insulted Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin and the army. What’s especially frightening is that their child was in the apartment at the time of the crime.
In court, Ivan Polunin absurdly claimed that the woman had actually provoked him to this terrible act. According to his descriptions in the argument, she allegedly insulted the Russian participants in the war and President Vladimir Putin, reports the independent Russian-language television channel ‘TV Rain’, citing the criminal act as a strange justification.
She had relatives in Ukraine and said the Russian soldiers were “killing their relatives.” Polunin wanted to convince them that the Russian army is “defending the homeland against Western aggression.”
To the front for freedom
According to the court document, the now 41-year-old served at the front from April 2023. It was a ‘deal’ so he didn’t have to serve his sentence for a drug offense. He returned home in 2024 with a bruise.
When he returned home a free man, he contacted his daughter. He had not seen her since she was born because he had been in prison for 13 years, TV Rain reports. However, the mother did not approve of the contacts.

Polunin still visited the youth again and again until a heated argument broke out. The ex-soldier lost his temper so much that he stabbed the child’s mother several times with a kitchen knife. He covered the lifeless body with a blanket. The daughter was in the next room at the time. The 41-year-old then took the 13-year-old to a hotel and explained to her that her mother had “moved to America.” During the court hearing, the daughter said she saw her mother lying on the floor and heard blows, screams and rattling.
Body chopped up and taken to the trash
On the day of the murder, Polunin returned to the apartment, dismembered the woman, hid some body parts near a store and threw the rest in a garbage bin.
The court sentenced Polunin to nine and a half years in prison in a high-security colony. The taxi driver who had transported the former soldier with the body parts was able to convict him.
