A woman from Linz experienced something incredible. One day, when she entered the basement of her city center apartment building, her assigned room was suddenly empty – tidy. After we initially thought it was theft, it later turned out that everything was completely different.
Hilde H. (69) has lived in a beautiful apartment in the old town of Linz for 50 years. But the woman from Linz has been at loggerheads with her property management company for two years. No wonder, because in June 2022, the woman’s basement was simply cleared out with a cloak and dagger operation – wiped clean. “One day I went downstairs and there was nothing left. I immediately called the police because at first I thought burglars were at work. But normally they don’t clean up,” says the Linzer resident.
The police were also puzzled
The police saw it that way, and that is why Hilde H. – who had just lost her husband to Corona two years earlier – contacted the property manager. And it soon became clear: she was the perpetrator. “The problem was that our basements do not have the same number as our apartments. Now a new one has moved in and my basement has simply been allocated to the tenants,” says Hilde H.
Fought for compensation for two years
However, she does not receive any compensation, even though she has been trying to reach an agreement with the property manager for two years. “I would have to provide invoices for the things that were in the basement. But I don’t have that. A lot of it was from my late husband,” she says.
The property management team understands: “A mistake was made, we are sorry,” is the response from “Krone” when asked. We will contact Mrs. H. again.
