In their view, UNIFIL members have become ‘human shields’ for the Hezbollah militias.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahuopenly asked the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, this Sunday, for the withdrawal of the positions of the UN peacekeeping force on the border of Lebanon, the FINULwhich the members, in their opinion, have become “human shields” for Hezbollah militias.
“It is time to withdraw UNIFIL from the strongholds of… Hezbollah and combat zones,” Netanyahu said in an official statement addressed to the UN Secretary General.
In it, the Israeli Prime Minister regrets that the Israeli army made this request earlier, just for the sake of doing so “constantly rejected”; a refusal, he assures, “entirely intended to provide human shields for Hezbollah terrorists.”
“Their refusal to withdraw UNIFIL forces is causing its members Hezbollah hostages and also endangers the lives of our soldiers,” Netanyahu emphasized in the statement. “Mr. Secretary General, withdraw UNIFIL troops from danger zones. Do it right now“immediately,” he concludes.
